Get inspired and shop the style...
The style emerged on the East Coast of the Long Island, U.S in the beach houses of the wealthy Americans. It feels airy, bright, relaxed, yet sophisticated. Features: large windows with classic curtains/Roman blinds or plantation shutters, multipaned doors, crisp white walls or white wall paneling, linen, patterned cushions in blue and grey, geometric designs, Ikat prints, oversized furniture, large lamps, glass coffee tables, nautical décor, timber flooring (white/grey-washed, light oak or black stained – for a sharp contrast). Colour scheme: Classic Hamptons - contrasts of whites & dark blues, accents of black and silver. Coastal (casual/new Hamptons) - soft neutrals, grey, sea green and blues with accents of copper or gold.
A relaxed style, focusing on the indoor- outdoor connection. The tropical style is dictated by the practicality of living in humid conditions: the padded furniture is replaced by rattan and other breathing materials. Colour scheme - warm, exotic and vivid: white, emerald green, aquamarine green, mustard with black accents. Features: natural materials, blonde wood, weave matting, subtle textures, pineapple motif, foliage prints-especially palm fronds, rattan and cane furniture with white cushioning, basket weave, rattan light fixtures and soft lightings, Venetian blinds/Plantation shutters, unusual traveller trinkets and treasures (E.g. shell necklaces from Java, carvings from the Islands, pineapples from Queensland, white corals).
